
Hearst Tower entered the scene at a very important historical moment in American history, as it was the first. In 1989, it was made a National Historic Landmark. The most popular choice for the title of worlds first skyscraper is the Home Insurance Building that was built in Chicago in 1885. The new tower stands 46 stories tall, housing 80,000 square meters of office space.
WHEN WAS THE FIRST SKYSCRAPER BUILT PLUS
Rand McNally Building (Chicago): The Rand McNally Building, completed in 1889, was the first skyscraper built with an all-steel frame. Located at 2 Handy Road, Cathay Building was Singapores tallest building upon its completion in August 1941. The first May Festival, held May 6-10, 1873, consisted of four evening concerts and three matinees, plus a grand closing performance matinee in place of a planned open-air concert in Inwood Park.


Tacoma Building (Chicago): Constructed using a riveted iron and steel frame, the Tacoma Building was designed by the major architectural firm Holabird & Root. Independence Building, North Carolinas first skyscraper built in 1909 at Independence Square circa 1966, Charlotte, NC.
